looking for kid-friendly authors similar to Kenneth Grahame who wrote The Wind in the Willows?

The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame is my nephew's favorite bedtime story, i also enjoy it too when reading it to him, are there any authors similar to Kenneth Grahame? Aside from Frances Hodgeson-Burnett because we've already read the Secret Garden as well as tadditional books Kenneth Grahame's published (not including The Wind in the Willows) likewise .My nephew is 4 and i am running out of reading material that amuses him, help!

The Phantom Tolbooth by Norton Juster is a book my sons loved that your son might enjoy. It is a humorous fantasy adventure which is quite delightful.

Stig of the Dump by Clive King is another great book that he might like. About a boy who finds a caveman living in a disused chalk quarry, it is a great story that my sons both loved. A classic in my opinion.

The Hundred and One Dalmations by Dodie Smith is another story that he might enjoy. Another one my sons were very fond of.

Your son might enjoy the Moomintroll books by Tove Jansson. The first one is called Comet in Moominland, and there is Finn Family Moomintroll, The Exploits of Moominpappa, Moominsummer Madness, Moominland Midwinter, and Tales from Moomin Valley. My sons also enjoyed these books.

He might like the Narnia books by C.S. Lewis, though perhaps he is a little young for them, but he seems to have very good comprehension for his age. You might like to start with The Magician's Nephew, which was not the first book to be written, but is the first chronologically. It explains the beginnings of Narnia, and is one of the most enjoyable in the series in my opinion.

E. Nesbit (mentioned in the answer above) is anothor author he might enjoy. Five Children and It is a very good one, as are its sequels The Phoenix and The Carpet and The Story of the Amulet. The Story of the Treasure seekers is another very good one, as is The Enchanted Castle. As with the Narnia books, I would have thought they were a little old for a 4-year-old, but he does seem to have quite advanced tastes for his age.

Edward Eager wrote some very entertaining children's fantasy stories which are full of allusions to E. Nesbit, who he admired tremendously. Half Magic, Knight's Castle, Magic by the Lake, and The Time Garden are all delightful stories.

The Midnight Folk by John Masefield is another book that he might enjoy, a very rich and complex fantasy adventure. Again, I would have thought more for a slightly older child, but a bright child like yours might enjoy it.

The Jennings books, by Anthony Buckeridge, are books that I was very fond of as a child. They are about a boy at an English prep school, and all the adventures he gets into. They are very funny.
